Party Conferences

18 September 2010 - 6 October 2010

Building on the success of last year’s joint fringe events at the party conferences, the Eye Health Alliance has this year teamed up with the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) and the Alzheimer’s Society (AS) to focus on the prevention agenda.

The fringe events, entitled ‘Getting in Early: Transforming Care through Early Diagnosis and Intervention’, will take place on:

  • Monday 20th September, 6.15pm-7.30pm (Hall 11C, ACC, Liverpool)
  • Monday 27th September, 6.15pm-7.30pm (Victoria Street, Manchester Central)
  • Tuesday 5th October, 5.45pm-7pm (Marquee 1, ICC, Birmingham)

These events will provide an opportunity to debate how preventative measures such as early diagnosis and treatment can help meet the pressures of treating an ageing population and secure the long term financial stability of the NHS. The panels consist of a Chair, an academic, a healthcare professional and the relevant Minister/Shadow Minister of State for Health.

Additionally, the Eye Health Alliance will be exhibiting with the Health Hotel in the Health Zone at each party conference, where delegates will have the opportunity to get a free retina photo and learn more about the importance of eye health.

A simulator of the number plate test, which is taken at the start of the practical driving test, will also be available on the stand. We will be calling on the Government to improve the way that we check that drivers have good vision to drive, highlighting the inadequacies of the number plate test. For more information, please see our campaigns page.

If you would like to know more details about the Eye Health Alliance fringe event or exhibition in the health zone at any or all of the party conferences, please contact Ben Cook, Policy & Public Affairs Officer at bencook@aop.org.uk.
