Eye Health in Children
Good eyesight is essential for a child's educational and social development. The eye is still developing up until the age of 7 so if problems are treated early it can make a difference which lasts a lifetime.
- All children are entitled to a free NHS sight test
- Children with a family history of eye problems are more at risk of developing squint and lazy eye
- Regular eye tests are important to check for the early sights of eye disease, which if left untreated, could lead to blindness
- Many eye conditions do not display any symptoms so it's important for children to have regular eye tests
Signs which may indicate a problem with a child's eyesight;
- difficulty concentrating
- behavioural problems
- headaches
- sitting too close to the TV
- rubbing their eyes a lot
