NHS Eye Care Services
In England, Northern Ireland and Wales those aged 60 and over, all children and those on low incomes are entitled to a free NHS sight test. Other patient groups may also be entitled to a free NHS sight test. To find out if you are eligible for an NHS sight test and are elgible for help with the cost of glasses or contact lenses check with the Department of Health. In Scotland everyone is entitled to a free NHS eye examination.
Patients who are unable to leave their home unaided due to a mental or physical disability may be entitled to a free NHS domiciliary sight test. Home visiting opticians are able to carry out an eye test in a patient's home or care home and advise on reducing risk factors for accidents such as falls.
