Brown and Cameron clash over free eye tests

23 April 2010

In the second leader's debate on Thursday 22 April, Cameron and Brown clashed over free eye tests for the over 60s.

A spokesperson for the Eye Health Alliance said: "The nation's eye health is too important to be left to politics — it needs serious debate. 100 people start to lose their sight in the UK every day, half of which could have been prevented through regular sight testing and early treatment.

NHS-funded sight tests for those most at risk of eye problems are a key element in preventing long-term visual impairment and blindness for many."
